Indistinct Images examines how artificial intelligence systems struggle to represent chickens as coherent bodies. While animals have historically been depicted with anatomical clarity—even when destined for consumption—AI-generated images frequently render the chicken unstable, fragmented, or incomplete. Forms collapse, anatomy fails to resolve, and visual coherence breaks down.

The project compares this instability to earlier traditions of still life and staged photography, where attention was directed toward the specificity of animal bodies. Rather than depicting mortality, AI images reveal a different condition: visual erasure. Trained largely on images of chickens as products, portions, or mass, these systems reproduce a narrowed way of seeing.
